My Sacred Journey to Egypt 2009 - The Obelisk

Welcome back everyone.
Today we continue our visit to Karnak Temple where we see the two obelisks
We take up with Dr Morad as we walk through this great temple towards the obelisks where we stopped and listened as Dr Morad spoke about them.

Queen Hatsheput
That thing is called an obelisk...an obelisk is a big needle...the big needle in English language is called the obelisk because they thought it looked like a needle and sometimes they call it Cleopatra's needle in books and so on.
The one that is in London belonged to Cleopatra then they called it Cleopatra's needle from that moment.

Lets talk about what is the obelisk....the obelisk is one piece of granite...heavy is thousands of tons..one piece...it came from Aswan and how they cut it and how they moved it and how they put it here...we don't know.

But if you look there it is full of writing..
If you translate the writing it is commorating what the King made in his life and he is dedicating that to the God of the temple.
Its like a memorial pillor outside the temple  telling the God what I made for you....yes I ordered first this number of gold coins for you...this number of oxen I slaughtered for you... all that story.

The other thing I want you to notice is the shape of it...it ends with a pyramid.
Actually a sun ray carrying that message from earth to the Gods and everyday as soon as it appears....energy source inside the earth sending things to the sky all the time.
And this is the connection between the earth and the heaven was through this...and it full of energy...full of energy.
If you look at this one (referring to second one) this is bigger...there..and this is having another suprise for us...the name is written there of the King who made it...Hatshepsut.
And what is written is...
Oh my father the God Amun Ra
I order these two obelisks from the
granite of Aswan to be made in seven months.
Make both of them in seven months and millions of years they will be here and generation after generation will pass by them and they will wonder how they made it....how they made it.

We know the obelisk is a sunray sending and receiving the energy but many people don't understand why the baboons...a kind of monkey are here.
When the appearance of the sun comes to the earth there are monkey's and baboons actually shouting and raising their hands to receive the energy from the obelsik that you see.
Actually the monkey was once the figure of the God Thoth...the Godof knowledge and wisdom.

Join me again soon as we continue to explore the beauty of Egypt, but for now I'll leave you with this clip Pyramids of Giza and Obelisks in Egypt...enjoy

Pyramids of Giza and Obelisks in Egypt
Huge obelisks made of solid granite pose a mystery, as it would have been difficult to have worked with this stone thousands of years ago. The quarries at Aswan can be visited, and you can see the Unf...

My Sacred Journey to Egypt 2009 - Inside Karnak Temple

Welcome back everyone
Today we go into Karnak Temple and as we approach this huge palace there sits on each side of the entrance leading up to the Temple, an avenue of rams.
It is written that originally there were three avenues of sphinxes, one of which was two miles long and linked up with the avenue of human headed sphinxes in Luxor.
Below is a wonderful Youtube video showing Karnak Temple in the past to present day.

You need Flash Player in order to view this.
Temple of Karnak
مدينة الاقصر وفي معبد الكرنك كانت زمان والي حتي الان فزيارتك ليها اعمار واليكم هذا

Now we'll join Dr Morad again as we go inside Karnak Temple

First hall is called prestyle hall or open court.
The Egyptians were having an avenue of rams...the ram is the symbolic animal of Amon.

The rams were going to the Temple inside and then this in ancient times...hundreds of years another King came and he push the rams back to the wall and he built instead of them rows of columns representing the papyris.

Every temple must have a Holly of Hollies room of the God's.
In front of it the big hall for celebration....we call the hypostyle hall. In front of it an open court we call it prestyle and then the two walls...we call them pylons and the gate between them.
If the Temple is going to expand or Kings were back to add to that, they were adding in front of these buildings.
Yesterday at Kom Ono we saw hypostyle halls remember, first one where the King was putting the crown...... and the second one....this embodies 134 columns and all are representing the papyris ...if you look up you see the colour ....all the temple was coloured like that...all of it.
We have these beautiful colours...you see the colors between the ceiling and the columns there..there and there.
This is exactly...the whole temple was wired like this having bright colors like that.
But of course flood and earthquakes and buried under the mud for thousands of years...washed most of these things except the high ones which are on the wall which was in reach.
The colors were stones powdered and mixed with egg white and painted. Its called tempra in art and they use the tempra technique of doing that.
This technique when you leave it becomes old and it becomes more strong...the colour never fade.
This is one of the techniques that in resonance time of Michael Angelo and all those people used it...this is to keep the things very old and very bright as much older.
You can see them they are three or four thousands years old.
There are the names of Rames II...because Rames II is the King who made 95% of this hall. His father started and he's the one who finished it....then whenever you look at the cartouche's.. the names they are Rames II.
Every column you see has a cartouche carrying the name of Rames II.
Every Egyptian King had five names and five titles. If you remember he must be Horus....the first name is Horus and then the tittle.
The second name is a King who is crowned by the two ladies...the cobra and the vulture...the third name is the son of Ra.
The son of Ra appeared as a duck and a disk of Ra...the son of Ra..
Rames is the big cartouche in front of us....see the God Ra on the top....the disk on top of his head and that big column you see the cartouche to the left on the top of it there is a man sitting....having the ankh in his hand and the disk of Ra on top of his head.

It is very hard to imagine what Dr Morad is describing about the cartouche so I've added a Youtube video's of Karnak Temple for you where the guide in the video  is referring to the cartouche's that Dr Morad is talking about.
Enjoy......

My Sacred Journey to Egypt 2009 - Karnak Temple

Karnak Temple with the avenue of Rams, representing he God Amun Ra
Welcome

Today we visit the Temple of Karnak.

Before we begin I would like to talk about the preparation and work that goes into organizing a trip such as this.
This trip certainly would not have been so wonderful if it was for the dedication of Medhat our tour organiser and Elisabeth Jensen.

Elisabeth Jensen

As you have read our Egyptologist Dr Morad who's depth of knoweldge is simply amazing gave us a greater insight and understanding of the places we visited.
It wasn't simply a story but more history lesson.
Our private visits and meditations led by Elisabeth allowed us to truly connect with the Ancient Gods and Goddesses.

Karnak Temple as narrated by Dr Morad

The name Karnak was given to the Temple because next to it is a village called the Karnak villiage....and they named it according to that.
But actually the origin name was the house of Amun Ra.
Then who is Amun Ra...one of the Egyptian beliefs of the Creation... you remember when I said it was dark and ocean and piece of land.
This happened in the north....to the north there was a Temple of the sun God there... in the middle of Egypt there was another Temple talking about a different way of Creation.
Not so far from this they said.... so the world was created from four elements...four...each one of those is a husband and wife...then they will be eight Gods.
The first you know...darkness..the God of darkness...Goddess of darkness.
The second one you know it....ocean...the ocean...the God of the ocean and the Goddess of the ocean.
The third one they called it the eternity...till the time.
The fourth one  made them power...then a piece of land emerges and the story continues.
The word hidden is Amun okay...then Amun is that hidden power.

Amun Ra and his wifeAmun was brought to a small city in Ancient time...and he was the local God of that place and they let him marry another wife here... and his wife was the wife of the hidden power as well.
Far away from here in Egypt...but we don't know what happened and they let him marry Goddess here called Mout spelt mout and they had a son called Khonsu.
Khonsu is the moon God....Amun Ra is the sun God...okay.
And he would belong to this area like small one of the crocodile we saw before in other areas and so on.
This is in the previous history Old Kingdom time....the Capital was Memphis near Cairo.

Ruins of MemphisMiddle Kingdom the Capital was in one of the oasis's ...Aswan.
Then Egypt was occupied by foreigners...foreign people came with horses and chariots... Egyptians never knew horses and chariots before then....they attack Egypt and occupy Egypt for three hundred years.
Then the Egyptians started struggle to liberate themselves from those hocks....they were called hocks and the people who started the struggle were rulers of this city.
When they made the victory they apppreciated that victory happen to them because of the support of Amun.
Then they started to bring in a bigger house....a bigger Temple...then the temple became bigger, bigger and bigger and most important Temple of the history of Egypt in the vicinity here.
Thats why in this temple we can tell the history of Egypt backward from the last Pharaoh  and Greek and going to the Middle Kingdom time inside...and it had ten gates, not only one or two like the Temple we saw before...this one has ten gates.
Instead of wasting your time of all this talking about the history...just to know who is Amun and he became the greatest God and in the New Kingdom.... Luxor became the Capital.
The name Luxor was not Luxor....the name in Ancient time was Wase then the Greeks called it Thebes and the arabs called it the palaces.
They found these buildings and they thought they were palaces....and they were not mistaken because they were palaces of Gods....then they called it the city of the palaces. The palaces are in Luxor so they called it Luxor according to that.
It became a big capital ...they become very powerful after they liberated the country.
They conqored the war...then whenever they went to occupy a new country the Gods income which is tributes and offerings and gold and people, slaves and all that stuff.
At least twenty five percent of the whole income of the country was coming into this Temple.
And then imagine that Temple was very rich and very powerful....even when I take you inside the Holly of Hollies..the room you were praying inside...it was covered with gold sheets and all these pictures you can see them....were stone lapis lazuli and turquoise  and so on.

Next we go inside the temple of Karnak.

My Sacred Journey to Egypt 2009 - Kom Ombo

Welcome back and a warm welcome to everyone across the world.

One of the wonderful things that I can see from my website www.isisblessings.com is the number of people who visit and where they come from.
Since beginning this blog more than 2000 people have viewed it and since its inception in 2010 over 12,000 have visited isisblessings.

I can not take all the credit for this blog as without Dr Morad we would not have been blessed with so much knowledge and wonder.

As I previousley mentioned, the reason for doing the blog was to share My Sacred Journey to Egypt in 2009  with those who are not able to visit or have been and enjoy going back via this form.
So thank you to all that continue to visit from Australia, America, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Germany, France, Japan, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Israel, India, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Malaysia, Netherlands, Phillippines, Russian Federation, Romanai, United Kingdom and Ukraine.
I hope I haven't missed anyone!

Entry Ticket
Today we visit the Temple of Kom Ombo, a double Temple with one side dedicated to the God Haroesis and the other side to the God Sobek.
It is written that the design is almost perfectly symmetrical with two side - by -side sanctuaries and parallel passage ways leading through the outer parts of the Temple.
Dr Morad EgyptologistThe God SobekDr Morad is with us once again to take us on a journey of discovery through this unusal but beautiful Temple.......
The Temple was built by the river and this area of the Nile is having a bug u turn....it slows down the current of the river.
When it slows down fish lay eggs and then the area is full of fish...then the fisherman came to fish here and they caught a lot of fish.
But also the crocodiles found they are full of fish to eat....they found the fisherman more delicous than the fish...they left the
fish then ate the fisherman.

Then who was controlling that crocodile from stopping doing harm....Sobek.
So they built the Temple of Sobek and they give him the daily service we talked about. Sobek will be satisfied and will order the crocodiles not to do harm.
This is the idea of having local Gods everywhere....we have big Gods like Ra, like Horus, like Isis and also we have local Gods like the Cat in the north for example....like Hathor in some places...like Sobek...like the Scoporpian Goddess in some other places.
Then this is the idea...then Sobek was shipped here and as you notice now it is like people don't feel comfortable to worship that God but they need need to worship that God to stop the crocodiles.
Then they made the Temple of two Gods instead of one.
The God Horus
Horus the beloved one and his enermy actually...Sobek or Seth.
In the centre they could keep the yin and yang...balance the area.
The Temple is for both of them... for Horus and Sobek together and this is something unique in Egyptian Temple. To have a Temple for two Gods is not common...but in this place to keep the equilibrium between the two forces...the white and the black or yin and yang or whatever you call it as it is..actually it keeps the balance.

When we go inside this area it is called the Holly of Hollies with two rooms representing the two Gods Sobek here and Horus there(see sanctuaries on left & right and stairways on map).
If you look around you there is a room here and a room there and a passage between them.
But this passsage was hidden by one wall in the back.
Nobody could see this passage ...and this is the corridor around the Holly of Hollies...everything was built around it...you go down and crawl back into this room...a crypt......can you hear my voice is amplified.
The priest would come through the door..go down in the hidden area...then the priest was hidden and then when the King was asking for Oracles and Prophecy, the answer coming from here...meant someone washiding here and no one knew where the voice was coming from.
Let us move outside to see where the crocodiles were kept .....
Crocodile PoolThe WellThe Well with Temple in backgroundThe Well showing the steps leading down from the door.
The pool was filled with water for the crocodile who was kept for the God... the pool had to have something to open and close for the water to come in... to fill the pool... it was coming from a well... then they had buckets filling the pool for the crocodiles.
From where the water was coming this was connected to the Nile and the water was coming from right here....if the water rise here by these steps they were counting every month and everyday and they measure the Nile.
The taxation system was delivered according to the Nile....the water is okay the crocodiles will be fine..the tax is like that...the water is less than ususal no taxes this year ....something like that.
Then counting these steps for measuring and the priests is going down from this entrance actually...look there...there is a door and we used to take the people down but some slipped and they close it. Nobody going down anymore.
This is what is known as the Nilometer.
The well was used for purification, cleaning the Temple, cooking what ever.

Below more images taken around the Temple.
Ritual basins, sarcophagi possibly for crocodile

Coming up ....Karnak Temple

My Sacred Journey to Egypt - Isis Temple

A picture of myself taken standing in the Temple of the Goddess Isis

Welcome back everyone.

The Temple of the Goddess Isis on the Island of Philae was one of my most memorable private visits in Egypt.
We were woken at 5 am in preparation for our ceremony in this beautiful temple.
As we made our way across to the island in our small boat it was dark and everyone was silent.
All that could be heard was the gentle lapping of the water against the side of the boat.
Arriving we all filed quietly in to the Temple and to the room known as the Holly of Hollies.

Dr Morad with an Inspector who remained with us during our time in the Temple
We'll join Dr Morad as he talks about this wonderful place.
The place you enter is called the Holly of Hollies.
Every Temple consists of limited items and additions after that but every Temple must have a Holly of Hollies.

The Holly of HolliesThe Holly of Hollies is actually the top secret room in an Egyptian Temple where the Goddess or the God is living there.
Remember every Temple has a Father, Mother and Son.
The other rooms are the rest of the Temple..normally in the Temple we find everybody see's the back of the Temple, but actually it is the beginning of the Temple.

Firstly the room of the God or Goddess who belongs to the Temple and then the husband and wife.
In front of it which is where everybody is standing there is a big hall...consists of columns and pillars and it like the celebration one.

But notice inside the Holly of Hollies one is dark... when the light goes off we didn't see anything because remember the story that creation started from darkness and ocean and then suddenly a piece of land emerged and the Creator who created himself appeared at the top of this house....the outside representing the mortar of him and the statue of the Goddess who was put here... is representing the appearance of the Creator.

Notice when we go outside we go down steps which is the opposite ...it is raised up from the ocean and darkness and when you are here and when the light goes off...nobody else could see in here.
Because it is dark ....when we go inside we can see everything out which is the God can see and nobody can see him.
He goes out...when he goes out he goes in a procession...carried in a boat and there you can see the pictures of these boats outside or in the other temples....then he is like shinning to the people and when he comes to the light... its like sitting in the sunshine.

Other pictures on the wall....what are all these other pictures.
Well actually all these pictures either prayers to the Gods or instructions of the service to be done to the God.
What kind of service ...the God was considered a person in need of his needs...and the priest was coming at the crack of dawn as he did and nobody was allowed to enter this room except for one person who's the Holly person....supposedly the King because the King cannot be in all the thousands of Temples in the same moment to do the service.
Then there was a man helping him do that...was called the High Priest...he was the only one who was allowed to enter the room.
The priests have asssitants as well...then the priests have grades and nobody was allowed to pass his line according to his grade.
Then the priests are there and can not come here because their grades are not allowed them to pass the this line....the highest one that could go inside is the High Priest.
What we call it...daily service from sunrise till the sun sets....when the sun sets he goes home...the door is closed and nobody can enter till the next dawn when he comes and opens it.

Dr Morad describing the pictures on the wall of the Temple.
Lets see some of these pictures and what that means...this side first...if we look at all these pictures we see here..there..everywhere...these are instructions of what is going to happen from sunrise to sun set...hour per hour actually.
What I want to tell you or to show you some of these very important sacred things.
Look at this picture....that man...this is the King and his name is written in the word in a kartush of course.
His name is written because this Temple was rebuilt remember...the last people who rebuilt the Temple at that time actually were Greek.

Then the name is written here....but what is the King doing....forget about his name...he is holding the eye...some of you say the Eye of Horus....and Horus's name is written here...Horus is the Falcon and look at this...this is the house of Horus...you see that.
We define this Hed Hor ...the shelter of Hor or Horus which is the name of the Goddess we call Hathor.
Then this is the Goddess Hathor and this is Horus himself and the eye is given to him.
What is this story of this eye and what did eye represent....in the early early hisory of the Gods you remember there was a kind of war happening between Horus and his Uncle Set ....the darkness and power.
In one of these battles the Uncle took the eye of Horus...he made one of his eyes blind.
Isis the Mother Goddess of healing power ... she collected all these pieces and fragments of the pieces...she made a special eye and returned it back to Horus...not only to see but to be protected from the evil forever.
Then if anybody is carrying this eye...it is a very powerful eye to protect any person from evil ...see he is returning the eye back to him which was made by Isis ..this was a big ceremony.
The other thing there is ....Osiris the Mummy...you see him here and you see the wings of Isis is protecting him.

The other protected symbol I want you to see is not clear but I want you to imagine ...look here he's holding two things can you see that...and you know of course the sister image it with me no is the head of the Goddess with two ears of a cow because she was representing the one who offers the milk...but on top of her head there is a design of like a Temple but actually its a box made of wood surrounded by these two things...see them.
These are just wire springs and you shake it they vibrate...when they vibrate they make tunes. The harmony of the energies and that temple box is working like a musical box...making a sound...very big when you shake it and used in ceremonies for Goddess Isis and Hathor.

Unfortunately I do not have defined pictures depicting what Dr Morad is describing but below are others that adorn the temple walls.
Visit http://www.isisblessings.com/  Philae Island Temple of Isis to see more pictures of this beautiful place.
